I was in kindergarten. There were only 7 in our class, starting in Feb but this must have happened the next semester during morning kindergarten because I'm not sure we had outdoor recess in the afternoon. One of the boys in our class carried a school bag (this predated backpacks by decades) and probably never loosened his grip on it. It resembled a leather briefcase, not that it matters. One day at recess time, I noticed him carrying it outside. If he did it every day, I had never noticed it before, but that day I did, so putting two and two together, I came up with 5 and figured it was time to go home... and I did just that.
The only reprocussion I remember was being called on the carpet the next day by Mrs. Johnson, the kdg teacher. She wanted to know where I was and I remember telling her some story about getting on a boat and going to visit my aunt (notwithstanding the fact that the aunt in the story lived in Syria).
Much later, were the "stained glass" windows at both ends of the first floor, but that's another story.
