The Friends of Robert Emmet School (FORES) participated in an awards assembly at Emmet on June 3, 2009. In addition to awards by the school, FORES provided books for good students, book gift certificates for 4 Emmet grads doing well at Austin Polytech, and bikes for 15 of the best Emmet students. A plaque went to Terrence O'Reilly, retiring assistant principal to recognize his dedication to the school. Here is a message FORES sent to Working Bikes and Westtown Bikes, NGOs in Chicago.
On June 3rd, Raul Gonzales and I delivered 15 "Working" bikes to Robert Emmet Elementary School at Madison St. and Central Ave. At a school assembly that day the bikes were presented to 15 kids with good scholastic and attendance records, chosen by the school. The kids were delighted. Alex Wilson from Westtown Bikes was there to make sure the right kids got the right bikes and gave some preliminary instruction. We hope to have Alex back during the summer for more bike instruction for these and other kids.
Some photos of the pickup delivery, and awards are included below. Thanks to Raul, Alex, and to all the others who made this happen.
Thanks for getting these bikes together for kids who really need them
