My favorite teachers were: Mr. Michael Legatutta (spelling escapes me) and Mrs. Greenspan.
Michael was my home-room and history teacher. He became a good friend of the family.
Mrs. Greenspan was my English teacher. She was able to control me better than the other teachers. I was a little out-of-control at times.
Inside Environment
I enjoyed being in the school plays and playing outdoors during recess. I enjoyed “hanging” out with the boys (I was a little tomboyish). I remembered my first kisses in the “gang-ways” during lunch time, etc. I loved the after-school programs.
My grades were decent, but I didn’t try harder to achieve higher grades because it was uncool to be a smart girl (thank goodness I got over that....). I loved school then and always did. My teachers had a lot to do with it.
Outside Environment:
I remembered the 1967 snow storm and us kids enjoying ourselves. I remembered the snow igloos and playing in them and the snow slides....what a great moment in history. However, later in the years, snow storms weren’t as much fun because we became adults trying to get to work. There were many Latinos, particularly, Puerto Ricans attending Robert Morris. There was a turf situation with a known gang called Aristocrats, consequently, the P.R. Stones were formed to combat some of the racial discrimination on Barry Street - unfortunately later, the Stones lost sight of the cause.
Another memory comes to mind, the area residents looked out for one another. I’m not sure if that still holds true today.

Hi, I was saddened to read
Hi, I was saddened to read that Mr. Lagatutta passed away. He was my favorite teacher. Robert Morris was such a great elementary school to attend for many reasons. The education was really good, as I learned while getting older. Many thanks to Mrs. Greenspan and Mr. Wolinsky for stressing English and Math. Mrs. Matz, Miss Junell and Mr. Elias were also very dedicated and good teachers. Those of us who attended this diversified school were, in my opinion, ahead of kids from other schools. I am very proud of being an alumni of Morris.
I am from the LaBoy family that attended Morris, which includes David, Ileana, Gladys, Nancy and Hilda. We all went to Lake View after graduation and all (except David) have remained in the Chicagoland area.
I read the above postings
I read the above postings and learned about Mr. Lagatutta's death, so I posted. That posting had a date of May 1990. I just looked through my pictures and found one of Mr. Lagatutta and a group of Morris graduates taken in 2003. I am in the picture and talked to him in 2003. Is there some mistake?
