Swimming Origin(s)

It is hard to believe that South Shore, launched in 1941, contributed in 1944-5 to (1) my Cross Country Track with Bill Scott and (2) my swim origin as a fill in for a Swim Meet doing backstroke in the puny 20 yd pool below the Gym. (we were first graduating class!)

Decades later, I made 3 Lake Michigan crossings, an English Channel single and double, a still-standing Farallone Island to Golden Gate crossing and pioneered my dog Umbra (*1) into the Guinness Books with several swims, most notable being her swim from Asia to Europe across the Bosporous in 1997 covered by Nationjal Geographic Explorer Television (and the Dardanelles!). This video prompted my interest in video productions, see web site at www.SdogV.com. Some of SdogV's work is on You Tube, go there and search "SdogV".

Now in my 80's and still alive (*2), my dog, my soul-mate, my swim compatriots (Tony Abertondo,Glen Burlingame, Dennis Matuch, Abou Heif, Greta Anderso(?). ....and others) have left me alone in a world that barely remembers the South Shore High School of 1941. I had the strange opportunity of serving as a substitute teacher in the "new" school.
