What ever happened to Mrs. Cole, Mrs Fineburg, Mrs. Obannon, the lunch lady, mean Mrs. Clapper and Rutheford?

Had the greatest teacher ever...Mrs. Cole for 6th grade in 1978.  Id do anything to find her.  She changed my life.

Crazy growing up in that school.  It seemed so big then.  Its like a million years ago....well close anyway lol.

I remember those Bright School Teachers

I enjoyed Ms. Elizabeth Knoth and her famous drum she used to keep the students in rhythm from skipping to galloping.  Does anyone remember the school librarian Ms. McCormick, Ms. Fineberg or Mr. Strike?! I enjoyed Mr. Lister's science class and Mr. Garrett always talked about the Korean war.

My 8th. grade teacher was Jim Wesson he was always fair and stern.  I remember Mr. Ragonese being my 6th. grade teacher and how he brought his daughter Susan to the school and would tell his daughter to name all the dinosaurs in front of the class.

I also remember a Mrs. Ryan and the school aid Mrs. Konkey (I think she had passed away while I was still attending school there)?  I had lot's of fun at Bright school and enjoyed my 8th. grade graduation trip to Galena, Il. although I looked forward to going to Springfield like the previous graduating classes and having my class picture posted on the main office bulletin board.

Favorite Teacher...

I'd have to say Mr. Anthony Ragonese was my favorite.  He was witty, taught well, and had a firm grip on his class, to say the least.

Others right up there, though, include Mr. Jim Wesson, the 8th grade math teacher and Mr. Bob Garrett, who taught upper grade social studies.  Mr. Wesson's booming voice brought any upheavel under control quickly and Mr. Garrett really knew his stuff.

Some of my favorite memories from my CPS Days include wonderful performances at special assemblies.  The fitness tests in which one could 'go for the school record' was something special to look forward to each spring.

"Clean Up Week" which has been changed to "Spring Break" signaled the beginning of cleaning up your homes and neighborhood.  There were city-wide essay and poster contests that we competed in each year.

Dress codes for CPS back in the 60's?  Of course!  I remember the anticipation every school day of going home and changing from school clothes into "play clothes".

And how about those fun, slide up into the ceiling, 'CLOAK ROOMS'?

One of my favorite teachers from Bright School was my 4th grade teacher, Mr. Makowski.  He was strict but fair and he created 'games' that ensured proper behavior.

Another favorite was my departmental science teacher, Mr. Lister.  Mr. Lister was a "Mr. Rogers" type of teacher.  He was softspoken and seemed to bring out the best in his students.
