Bell's 95th Birthday-- seeking volunteers

Hi all! I'm writing as both a graduate ('98) and current Bell teacher.  I received a request from a parent on the Friends of Bell board and thought I'd pass it along to all of you.

They are in the midst of planning a large fundraiser for the school to celebrate its 95th birthday and are seeking a volunteer to head up our alumni association.  If you or anyone you know is interested in lending your efforts, please contact volunteer coordinator Michelle Daut at michelle@dautnet.com.

Thanks!

David's 1970 classmate

I went to the Alexander Graham Bell School in 1969 to 1973, If anyone of you did go there in my classmate or anyone of you know who were they? Please let me know. I would like to know who were they. I still remember the names but I am not sure.

Mark Presley Hawkins

Welcome Alexander Graham Bell School Kindergarten Class of 1973-72. It's been many years, but seem like yesterday when we were steping into a new world of learning. I welcome you all. Although I didn't really get to know or remember my Kindergarten class the memories are in my heart.

I went to about 8 different schools in my life making it very hard through the years to make any bonding friends. I hope through this group I can reunite and share some stories. I only attended Bell through kindergarten and then off to the next school. Although I attended many schools I have gained a positive outlook in life and appreciate all that I have and all that is given. I am married to my lovely wife Tracey and have a beautiful boy.

One of the things I remember the most about Bell is there outstanding deaf program the ranks top in the state. I also remember playing in the mud pit that was next to the entrance doors. When it rained out during recess kids would flock there. I remember my first day of kindergarten. My dad took me for a haircut and breakfast before my big day of entering Bell school playground. Again I hope to here from you and reunite. Feel free to tell some or your memories.

sincerely,
Mark Presley Hawkins

a few of my favorite things...to remember

Mr Dulak. Anyone who knows that name knows a great teacher. To this day I remember him very fondly. Mrs Mendelson- Music, and 2nd grade, gentle and kind, she left me with a musical heart forever. Mr Weiss. Home Room 5th and 6th grades.... what a punisher. "you got 5 pages"! He instilled fear, but you know what? to this day I respect teachers, and so do my kids. He's a great teacher, and I wasnt the easiest kid to teach, if he remembers me...I wish them all well and hope to hear from any of them

Bell's Visit to Bell

Here is a little history about the early days at Bell School....

The first deaf students to attend Bell School were very proud of their beautiful new school. Because Alexander Graham Bell was a very prominent figure in the deaf community, they wrote letters to him requesting that he send them a picture of himself to display in the school. Bell obliged and sent them his photograph; it now hangs in the waiting area of the main office. You can see the actual letters that the students wrote to Bell in his archives on the Library of Congress website. At the time that the students wrote requesting Bell's photograph, the school was not quite finished. The students wrote more letters requesting that Bell attend the dedication ceremony that was to be scheduled after the completion of
the auditorium. Alexander Graham Bell obliged again by actually attending the dedication ceremony. He gave a speech, shook hands and handed out a small version of his photograph to all who attended.

Mr. Dulak was an inspiration

Mr. Dulak was an inspiration to me during my years at Bell (1957-1965)...  His patience and superior teaching ability should be a testiment to all teachers at Bell and the CPS system...

He not only motivated his students to do their best but drove us to achieve an even greater understanding of life through his efforts and friendship...

His dedication to teaching as well as his dedication to growing young students to become valuable citizens and today parents of our own students should be honored at the highest level of education...

He will always be loved and admired for all of his contributions to our students and our society...

Mr. Dulak is one of the finest teachers that I have ever had the priviledge to know and learn from...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart...  David J. Craglione '65

Favorite Bell Teachers

Some of my favorite teachers at Bell were Mrs. Henry, Mr. Weiss, Ms. Lofgren and Mrs. Mendelson.

Looking for pictures...

Hello, I am the widow of an AGB elementry school student. I am looking for *any* and *all* pictures of Juan Gabriel Rodriguez. He was in the Deaf program from about 1972 on... I am not sure the year that he started there.

If anyone out there has pictures of him, I will gladly pay for copying and shipping. I would like to have these pictures for our son.

If anyone can help, I do appreciate it.
