These pictures include the retirement of principal Martin around 1989. Mr. Martin was leaving, and a tree was planted in his honor by Ms. Bonaminio and her classroom.

My father attended Senn from 1927 until 1931 and I know they had one of the premier band programs in the country at the time - winning the National Band Contest in 1930, defeating Joliet Central. The band director at that time was Albert Gish. I believe he was director from about 1925 until 1931. He then was at the Conn School of Music for a year or two, then taught at Austin High School for many years, after the death/murder of the band director there. Capt. Ostergren took over the band program in 1931 and was at Senn for many years. I do not know what year he left.
I am interested in anyone that can help me with the band history of
Senn. - Cameron
Miss Lee, Algebra I in spring 1958, Senn HS. I was a middling science and math student but it was only because I was ADD and just did not try very hard. Secretly I had always been facinated by science. I collected bugs, had a telescope, and used a microscope to see life in puddles. But math and science in elementry school just did nothing for me.
I still remember, to this day, as if it were yesterday, Miss Lee gave a lecture about negative numbers and what they meant. It was like an explosive flash. From that point on, math and science skills bloomed.
I would love to tell her that I have a PhD in Chemistry, and I credit her with 100% of the impetus that got me there, stemming from that day. Thank you Miss Lee, I will never forget you (she left to get married in another city).
