Chicago-native Isabelle C. O'Keeffe graduated from Franklin Elementary School, North Division High School and Normal (renamed Chicago) School in Chicago. She served as a teacher at Graham School for six years, the first Vice-President of the International Press League in 1893, a member of the Chicago Board of Education, and the founder of the Catholic Women's League. Though she served Chicago in many ways, her most important and enduring contribution to the public schools was the establishment of kindergarten as a staple of the Chicago school system. Isabelle C. O'Keeffe died in Chicago on January 18, 1922.
