Linne, Carl (1707-1778) Swedish-born Carl von Linné, also known as
Carolus Linnaeus, created a system for naming and classifying organisms
that is still very popular today (albeit with modifications). Thus, he
is frequently called the Father of Taxonomy. During his life, he
studied plants extensively and practiced medicine. In 1741 he became a
professor of medicine at Sweden's renowned University of Uppsala.
