William Jones High School is one of the earliest schools in Chicago Public School history. It began as School #2 and became William Jones Elementary School in 1858 when all schools were given names. The school became a high school in 1921 as William Jones Continuation School (1921-1938), William Jones Commercial High School (1938-1983), then William Jones Metropolitan High School of Business & Commerce, William Jones Academic Magnet High School and finally William Jones College Preparatory High School.
