The Board of Education referred to this site as the Bryn Mawr, Francisco, Hollywood and Mozart site before the school building was constructed in 1937. Minnie Jamieson (nee Mars) was born on Dec. 31,1870, according to her mini-biography that appears on the Jamieson website. The 1920 US Census lists her approximate year of birth as 1874, however. She was born in Illinois; her father was born in Massachusetts and her mother in New York. She taught and was the principal at Budlong School for 23 years. She was married to Thomas Jamieson who was also a school principal. He was younger than his wife (c. 1875, according to the census). His parents were born in Scotland, and he was born in Illinois. In 1920 they lived at 5010 N. Winchester Ave., near Amundsen School. Minnie died on April 4, 1928. Since Jamieson was built in 1937, we must assume that she was a respected teacher and principal at Budlong, and those in charge wished to memorialize her name by naming nearby Jamieson in her honor.
