About Crane, Richard T. Crane Technical Preparatory Common School

Crane Training High School opened in 1903. In 1908, the name was changed to Crane Technical High School. In 1954, Crane merged with McKinley High School (when it closed). In 2004 the name changed to Crane Technical Preparatory Common School.

As a student at Crane High School during the first half of the 1960's, I was among the hip & cool, tinted green glasses and short leather jacket wearing crowd.  We were all so cool back then; and what we called "suave & debonair."   It was the beginning

Back Row- Verdine White, Fred White and Danny Leake. The Montrels performed in many telent shows held at Richard T. Crane during the 1968 and 1969 school years.

Crane Alum Elected President of Black Alumni Group at UIC

Christopher Vaughn, Class of '80, has been elected President of the Black Alumni Advisory Council of the University of Illinois Alumni Association at Chicago (UIC)

Christopher Vaughn, a graduate of Crane High School's Class of 1980, is the newly elected president of the Black Alumn Advisory Coucil (BAAC) of the University of Illinois Alumni Association at Chicago (UIC), the largest public university in Chicago. Chris, a former member of student government and a senior class officer in 1980, still strives to be a leader in the community.
