About Chalmers, Thomas Chalmers Elementary School

Thomas Chalmers Elementary School opened as Fairfield Avenue and 12th Street School. Throughout the years, the school was known by several names: Hancock School (1886-1892), Chalmers Elementary School (1892-1918), Chalmers-Plamondon School (1918-1921) and Plamondon Elementary School, Branch - Chalmers (1921-1933).

The name changed to Chalmers to avoid confusion with Hancock school of Lake Township, which was annexed in 1892.
