The Chicago Public Schools first employed the Carver name in 1944 to refer to an elementary school and high school campus located at 820 E. 131st Street. The "campus" consisted of three buidlings: building "A" housed the elementary school, building "B" was an all-purpose building, and building "C" housed the high school.
This arrangement lasted until 1950. In 1950, Carver Area High School (grades 7-12) moved to 801 E. 133rd Street and Carver Elementary moved to 901 E. 132nd Street. The high school stayed at this location until 1973.
In 1973, Carver Area High School (grades 9-12) moved to 13100 South Doty Avenue. Grades 7-8 remained behind at the 801 E. 133rd Street building, which was renamed Carver Upper Grade Center.
In 2000, Carver Area High School was transformed into the Carver Military Academy.
