About Carter, William W. Carter Elementary School

Carter School was annexed in 1889 and originally stood at 61st Street
and Wabash. It moved to 5740 South Michigan Avenue and was renamed
Carter Practice School in 1908. In 1924 it was renamed again, this time
to Carter Elementary School. It continues to operate under this name
today, giving it one of the richest heritages of any Chicago Public
School.
