The school building was taken over in 1863 when city limits were extended. The building had previously been a school before it was annexed and the principal and school name were retained. The building was closed and students, teachers, and principal were transferred to Holden School. The Bridgeport building was reopened September 1870 as a branch of Holden. Archer Avenue Primary School closed in February 1881 as an independent school. The school reopened in September 1919, combining branches of Sawyer Avenue and Gage Park schools.
