Alcott serves grades pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Dedicated faculty, community partnerships and over 400 students representing more than 200 families make up the vigorous Alcott community. Our sprawling grounds include plenty of green space and a school garden that serves as a teaching lab for healthy eating. In addition to our integrated curriculum, we offer instruction in Mandarin Chinese for students K-8, perform an annual Shakespeare medley and offer a rich array of after-school programming.

Welcome Alcott alumni! Since its inception in 1893, Louisa May Alcott School has nurtured and educated students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Alcott is a progressive school that has received local and national media attention for its groundbreaking initiatives, and has created a cohesive community among teachers, parents, community leaders and local businesses.
Our vision is for Alcott to become a school that reflects the best of 21st Century America – blending the strengths of a diverse population to benefit all students. Alcott’s mission is to provide a cohesive and effective curriculum that meets the needs of students while honoring multiple intelligences and individual learning styles.
Our school has experienced tremendous growth and achievement over the past decade. The dedication of our teachers combined with their progressive teaching techniques has allowed Alcott students to shine academically. In addition to steadily rising standardized test scores, Alcott has created an enriched learning environment that incorporates language, art, music, drama and a wide range of after-school activities. Visit our website at www.alcottschool.net where you can learn more about today’s Alcott, and even watch footage and view photos of recent events at the school or listen to our students singing!
Below is a sample of some of the great things happening at Alcott School.
An important part of the Alcott community is our energized parent body that organizes many events to raise funds needed to reduce our class sizes to 25 (as opposed to the over-30 CPS average) and ensure that fine arts continue to be a part of our curriculum. Alcott is among the top fundraising schools in CPS. You can feel the energy the parents bring to the school at any school event as well as daily during drop-off and pick-up times.
We also have strong partnerships with DePaul University, as a Professional Development School, as well as with community leaders who provide resources, and local businesses that sponsor numerous efforts. Together, we continue to create a wonderful enriched environment for our students.
You have been a part of Alcott’s past and we invite you to become a part of its present and future. Please join this alumni website and share your favorite memory and/or pictures of Alcott. Is it the holiday music assembly, the lunchroom, your third grade teacher or recess? We welcome all favorite memories. Also, please view the Get Involved section to find out how you can continue to help your alma mater, Alcott School.
