School took its name from the street upon which it was located. Street was named by DeLancy Louderback, a developer, who also named the Albany Park development after his hometown, Albany, New York. Albany, NY was named by the
English in 1664 for the Duke of York and Albany, at title belonging to King James of England.
Albany Avenue School became an independent on April 16, 1913 but became a branch of 19th Street School in 1916.
