Get down & cover your head! If you went to public school in the 60's, you knew the drills. And we believed that we would be OK, if we just got down on the floor, away from the windows.
In grammar school, we had a lot of Air Raid drills, and fire drills. I did not realize until later the real reason we were having them. And how serious this was, in those days this was a real concern to our country.
I remember lining up in the halls against the lockers and the triagular yellow and black signs.... The basements of schools had and/or still have bomb shelter supplies. Steinmetz recently cleaned out some crackers from the 1950's. LOL I hear they didn't taste so great anymore. Mrs. Shanburg tasted them. She is a biology teacher, afterall ;-) LOL
I too remember the lining up in the halls and filing out in pairs headed outside. We would then stand there on the sidewalk until we were led back inside.
