Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875-1950) - Burroughs, author and creator of Tarzan - one of the most celebrated characters of all time, did not begin his writing career until the age of 35. During his prolific forty-year career, Burroughs published at least one book every year, save one. In addition to Tarzan, Burroughs created the popular and influential series John Carter of Mars, and The Land That Time Forgot.
