I found this 5th & 6th class photos for the Avondale School. I don’t know the year, maybe in the 1940’s or 1950’s. Maybe someone will recognize a person or two and post a date.

The bottom photos are the class photos of Miss Anna Dunn, who later married my grandfather, Phil McGuire, a Chicago police officer from 1890-1936.

Photo taken in 1947 on the east side of South Shore HS. Perhaps a pep rally?
Mrs. Stapleton, a math teacher, is in the midst of the crowd, not looking overly enthusiastic.

I remember this day distinctly. The girl dressed as a "cigarette girl" (Yvonne Caspers) was the heartthrob of the neighborhood.
The second picture has names of the kids in room 207.
The bottom photo is the front page of the Bradwell Life, heralding the impending graduation of the class of 1958.

Well, I was going through my old photos and stumbled upon a few photos from the Crane Class of 1980's Prom at the Holiday Inn Chicago City Centre near Navy Pier. Prom always seems like a magical night, the girls are dressed so elegent and the guys are so formal. For some guys this was probably the first and last time they wore a Tux, I know for me it was just the first of many more times to come.

this was the 96-99 softball team shared by a friend

The Chicago Public Schools has a new alumni website www.CPSalumni.org for anyone who attended or worked for CPS.

After I attended Lane my grandfather told me he had attended the school as well.
I was recently scanning some old pictures of the school and found these that I am sharing.
Unfortnately no exact date to go along the picture, but was quite amazed at the clarity.
I believe pictures are from 1917 - 1919.

It made me so very said that they have torn down Riis. I feel like a part of me has been lost to the sands of time. I attended Riis from 1968 to 1976, and the seeds of the person I am today were planted there at Jacob A. Riis.

Wow, it's hard to believe sometimes that it has been 28 years since I graduated from Crane High School. I sometimes wonder just where everyone is now in life. I know I have been very fortunate with where my life has taken me, and I hope that all my fellow Crane Cougars have made good lives for themselves.

1947 Mid-year Graduation - newspaper and Program

For information about the history of the Beaubien School, see the Jefferson Park Historical Society's website and down load newsletter number II - July 2005.
I recall that during the mid-1940's, near the end of WWII, every kid that was willing and able would scour the neighborhood with a coaster wagon to collect newspapers from door-to-door. Then they would bring them to the gymnasium doors at the north end of the school. The papers would be stacked against the walls in the gym, some bundled, some loose.
I remember running home from school in 2nd grade so proud that I got home before my neighbors did. When i came in my mom got scared. It was recess not time to go home.

I remember riding our bikes, from Cumberland and Irving, to the Harlem Irving Plaza...we just called it the Plaza. If we had enough money in our pockets, we would put something down on lay-away, at Lerners.

A group of classmates from the June, 1958 class are planning a reunion for the spring of 2009. If any of our classmates enroll in this program we would hope that they contact me as soon as possible. Or, if anyone knows any of the classmates from this group, maybe they could contact these individuals and let them know of our plans.
My e-mail address is below.
What a wonderful time was had by all who attended. While I don't have any number of attendees, I can tell you that I personally had a wonderful time. Furthermore, I can also speak for my contacts that they too had a great time.
Everyone who attended Ella Flagg Young should check out this Young Alumni website, especially the class of 1968!
