CLASS OF JANUARY 1962 REUNION
A number of classmates from the January 1962 graduating class have been meeting four times a year. Check out our website at http://lanetech62/tripod.com/
This group has decided to organize a 50 year reunion on behalf of the January 1962 Class. It was decided not to have an expensive ordeal. Also of great concern was the feeling that the event should be geared towards socializing as opposed to being stuck at one table for speeches and dining followed by dancing. The emphasis will be placed on visiting with your classmates and having some eats and drinks available. Spouses and significant others are encouraged to attend. Mark your calendars as this reunion will be on April 28, 2012 at the Colletti’s Restaurant banquet room, 5707 N. Central Ave. (at Elston) Chicago, IL.
The day before the reunion, Friday April 27, 2012 classmates and spouses are also invited to socialize and tour the school building courtesy of the Lane Tech Alumni Association.
To be placed on an email list for further information contact Wayne Kurey at wwkurey@gmail.com and please indicate “Lane” in the subject field.
For those classmates who don’t have computer access and are interested you may call Wayne at (847) 698-3675 or (847) 722-4975
PLEASE JOIN US AT THIS SPECIAL PAGE THAT I HAVE DEDICATED TO ALL THE FAMILIES THAT ATTENDED HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN ELEMENTARY. THIS PLACE WAS NOT JUST A SCHOOL IT WAS A FAMILY THAT LOVED US AND MADE SURE WE LEARNED..
EVEN THOUGH THE SCHOOL IS NO LONGER OPEN I WOULD LOVE FOR EVERYONE FROM THIS SCHOOL HELP ME KEEP THIS SCHOOL ALIVE IN OUR MEMORIES AND HEARTS THIS SCHOOL WILL BE MISSES BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.
OUR LAST CELEBRATION OF ANDERSEN SCHOOL
I am sorry to say but June 30, 2011 Hans Christian Andersen School closed their doors for ever and it was devistating to see the people that tought me and my daughter and aunts and uncle of mines walk away for ever. It was an injustice because CPS promised us that the last child was going to be able to graduate in 2013 but at the last minute they closed us without a care in the world. and know it has been taken over by another school which by what I can see are not so welcoming like they say they are to all the Andersen Children that had to attend that school. I really Miss ANDERSEN SCHOOL.. THAT SCHOOL MADE US FEEL LIKE A FAMILY...

Ebinger School - I've been part of Ebinger School since 1966 graduated in 1974 and sent my children there. It is a wonderful school. I work at Edison Park Community Church where so many alumni attend. I was part of the schools foundation alumni group and through them and the church was able to get so many graduation pictures starting at the 1st graduation. I'm missing a large group of pics from the 60's - now. If you'd like to scan your graduation pic and send it to me, I would love it. email to edisonpk.comchurch@sbcglobal.net Also, I group of alumni have been corresponding thru facebook, http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.287677534589413.75861.287670327923467&type=1#!/pages/Ebinger-Alumni/287670327923467

My name is Zenobia L Silas-Carson. I attended Lawson Elementary school from Kindergarten 1952 to fourth grade in 1956. My kindergarter teacher was Joan Wetherell. I still have two different report cards from that school. Back then, my address was 1330 South Sawyer and we still had phone numbers that began with a word. Ours wsa Crawford 7 2995. I remember the rag man and Larry's store on the corner that sold popsicles for a nickel.
It's been 50+ years since I was five, but the memories are fresh in my mind. My life has included two marriages, one ending in divorce and the other in the passing of my husband. I have given birth to six children, of whom four are still alive and have lived in various places like Florida, Mississippi, Illinois ( Waukegan, Hanover Park, Palatine and Gurnee. I am currently a resident of Minnesota and have written two books, published one and am working on another. God has been good to me. I look forward to many years and my fondest memories always bring me back to Douglas Park, the Douglas Branch library where I got my first library card, and the mingling of Jewish people and blacks that was kind of our little world back then.
Thanks for listening and if you would like to chat up an old Lawson friend, I am at ZisSAVED@aol.com
Thanks, Zenobia

Hello,
I graduated Gurdon Hubbard H.S. in 1981 which is 30 years ago. Have you heard of any 30th year reunion for my class?
Additionally, my husband John W. Vinson is a 1985 graduate from Hubbard H.S. Do you know of any reunions for his class?

A reunion for the 8th grade class of 1974 is being planned for October 15, 2011. Please email me at cruzer81@yahoo.com if you have not heard about it and are interested, or if you know someone in the class of 74, please pass along this information. We are attempting to get as many of our 200 member class as possible.

Louise Schumann, right. Minnie Schumann, left.
Going through some family papers, I found the graduation photo of the class of1902 of which my Great Aunt, Louise Schumann was a part. Also found Vol. 9 (1901-1902) of the North-West Division Review and the Graduation Number of the North-West Division Review dated July 1902. In addition to Louise, I believe other Schumann sibblings who may have attended North-West Division High School include Pauline, August, Carl, Augusta, and Wilhelmena.
Most of the Rosenwald 5th grade class of 1966 (we had to go to Carroll for more) ended up at Bogan High in the class of 1973. If you are in this class, please look for the Facebook group Bogan class of 1973 for reunion planning going on now! It will be held in September of 2013. Or you can contact Lauren Perreault at Lauren at FabulousSouthBay dot com (writing it this way to prevent spambots -- you know what to do!) to get more info.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - REUNION UPDATE:
Change is Good! :-)
Due to unexpected circumstances, the lakefront cruise has been canceled. However, the Reunion Committee has a change of venue to announce. The South Shore 1976 Reunion Association regrets that this change has occurred at the last minute and apologizes to those alums that were looking forward to a night out on Lake Michigan. MOOS SCHOOL JAMBOREE 2011 The time is now to raise your hand if you will be in attendance to our very first Jamboree of all the kids who attended Moos Elementary school from the 1930’s thru the 60’s. The dates have been set and the application details are as follows. On Wednesday June 22, 2011 the adventure begins. A 3 ½ to 4 hour tour of our old neighborhood including Humboldt Park, Milwaukee Ave., Logan Square, the streets bounded by North, California, Armitage and Western, Tuley H.S., St. Fidelis Church, St. Sylvester’s Church, Fairfield Ave. Baptist Church, Yates School, Chase School, The Oak and Congress theaters, Father & Son Pizza, Congress Pizza, Marge’s Candies, Sam’s Red Hots and a lot more. The tour will start at Moos at 10:00 am the morning of June 22nd and end at Moos sometime around 2:00 pm. Cost is $28 per person. At that time we will be honored with a tour of Moos including the old building, which we knew and loved, and the new section which, I hear, is gorgeous. The building now stretches all the way to Bloomingdale and there is one single home left on the entire block. On Thursday, June 23rd, the following day, we will have a great big banquet at la Villa restaurant starting at 5:00 pm. We have invited several of our former teachers to join us as well as our Principal Maria Cruz who, by the way, also taught classes at Moos for 20 years. The dinner will be an eight course meal served family style. Cost is $35 per person. Contact me, Jim Curtis, at jcurtis5@bellsouth.net for further info and to sign up.

About Whitney Young Dolphins Making A Difference
Whitney Young Dolphins Making A Difference (WYDMAD) will celebrate its first anniversary on November 12, 2010. Nine Whitney M. Young Magnet High School alumni formed WYDMAD in direct response to the senseless and tragic murders of Chicago Public School students. WYDMAD’s mission is to provide critical resources to Chicago Public School children in an effort to shape better students and productive citizens. WYDMAD has sought to accomplish this goal by using the diverse backgrounds of its members to embrace, educate, and empower youth in transitional age groups.
Since November of 2009, WYDMAD has created two initiatives for the purpose of giving back to Chicago public school students. WYDMAD formed a school-based mentoring and tutoring program for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at West Pullman Elementary School. Their mentors provide students with academic support and character development education. WYDMAD also supports the social and academic growth of current Whitney Young freshmen. WYDMAD’s programs instill a spirit of excellence in the children they serve. The ultimate goal of the organization is to see children become a vehicle of change in their homes, their schools, and their communities.

Dear Distinguished Alumni,
My name is Jessica Rogers and I am the 8th Grade Math Teacher at Boone. Upon discussing what we would like to do for our Graduating Class of 2011 we discovered that none of our 8th Grade students have been to Washington DC. With this information at hand, the other 8th grade teachers, members of administration, and myself decided to make it our goal to take our students on what could be a once in a lifetime experience.
In order to achieve this goal, we need your help. As you are well aware, funding for a program like this is well beyond our means. This is why we are reaching out to you. We would like to invite you to either assist with our fundraising efforts, or make a donation to Boone, in honor of our graduating class. Every little bit can help.
Please help us make this experience a reality for our students.
Sincerely,
Jessica Rogers

Dear Alumni,
As the Centennial Planning Committee began to make plans for this Spring's
festivities at Schurz we felt strongly that the establishment of a formal
Alumni Association was long overdue. Therefore, it is with great pride
that we officially announce the birth of the Carl Schurz High School
Alumni Association. We will work to be sure that the next century of
Schurz students will be supported by interested Alumni, eagerly supporting
their efforts to continue the proud tradition that we have all helped
build. The Alumni Association will exist as a self-sufficient
organization without financial support from Carl Schurz High School.
The Carl Schurz Alumni Association has been formed to pursue the following
goals, as stated in the Articles of Incorporation. It is our intention:
To preserve and maintain the history of Carl Schurz High School in
Chicago, Illinois
To foster relationships among Alumni
To provide scholarships to worthy students
To maintain and enhance the learning environment for the students of Carl
Schurz High School
With these goals in mind, the Alumni Association has two major projects on
the horizon. The first is the upcoming "Centennial Celebration"
event to be held on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, 2010. This event
will serve as an opportunity for all Alumni to gather and celebrate the
100 year birthday of this proud and majestic building; and will benefit
the current and future students of our beloved alma mater. With the
proceeds of the Centennial, we hope to accomplish the following:
Begin restoration of the legendary M.P. Moller (1936) pipe organ in our
auditorium, with a demonstration performance at the Centennial Celebration
Upgrade the video capabilities in our auditorium with a state-of-the-art
projector and screen
Open an Alumni Association Scholarship fund to benefit deserving Schurz
graduates
Purchase and support a display cabinet to be placed in the Library, to
spotlight Alumni accomplishments and events
Provide start-up money for Alumni newsletter production and mailing
expenses
The second major project is to begin the planning of Multi-Year Reunions
to begin in Spring, 2011. These are in no way meant to take the place of
or to supersede any class' plans to celebrate as an individual entity.
These are intended to facilitate community between all Alumni who attended
school during the same years. For instance, a graduate of 1985 attended
Schurz with students of the classes of 1982 through 1988, this hopefully
will give us a chance to celebrate with more of the people we knew at
Schurz. The plans for these celebrations are still in their early stages,
but the chart below represents our thoughts on how the plan may shape up.
Class Years Reunion Date
1900-1969 May 2011
1970-1979 May 2012
1980-1989 May 2013
1990-1999 May 2014
2000-2009 May 2015
1900-1974 May 2016
1975-1984 May 2017
1985-1994 May 2018
1995-2004 May 2019
2005-2014 May 2020
The Centennial Committee is working diligently to provide an exciting and
fun weekend for all. PLEASE, (he begs) if you know any Schurzites who may
not know about the Centennial plans, please ask them to sign up on the
Alumni Directory at SchurzHS.org so that they can be part of the big
party. It's not something they will want to miss! Registration for the
Centennial Celebration weekend festivities and the Alumni Association
Membership Drive will commence December 1st. Details to follow.
Go Bulldogs!
Sincerely,
Tim Anderson
