Philip Danforth Armour (1832-1901): businessman. Armour was born in New York state and moved to Chicago from Milwaukee in 1875. He developed Armour and Company, the meatpacking business, in 1867. Armour and Company was the first company to produce canned meat.  He also founded the Armour Institute of Technology which would later become the Illinois Institute of Technology.
