Roberto Clemente Walker (1934 - 1972): professional baseball player with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clemente was born in Puerto Rico and played baseball there until he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1954, achieved an amazing record, and is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Clemente was also devoted to humanitarian causes and to helping young people improve their lives. He died in a plane crash going to the aid of Nicaraguan Earthquake victims. |
