William Withington Carter (1849 - 1906): a former Principal of the Englewood High School and Superintendent of Schools of Englewood, he was born in Leominster, Massachusetts. His boyhood was passed on Carter Hill, the home of his ancestors for two hundred years. After graduating Leominster High School, he spent four years at Harvard University, graduating in 1872. At the age of twenty-three, he was offered the position of principal of the Englewood High School. In 1886 he became a partner in the real estate business of his father-in-law, Henry B. Lewis. He was actively engaged in this business until his death in 1906. |
