Lane, Albert Grannis (1841-1906): Born in Galewood, Illinois, Albert G. Lane moved to Chicago at an early age. Lane contribute to the quality of education in and around Chicago in several ways: among other accomplishments, he became principal of Franklin School before his eighteenth birthday, Cook County Superintendent in 1869, and Chicago Schools Superintendent in 1891. He was a fierce advocate for manual training in the public high schools and is revered as one of the greatest figures in CPS history. |
