Colonel James Harvey Bowen (1822-1881): Considered the "Father of South Chicago". Bowen was born in New York State and a member of Bowen Brothers dry goods. He was an organizer of Third National Bank in 1862, was U.S. Commissioner to the World's Exposition at Paris (1867), improved Calumet Harbor and developed the land surrounding the harbor.
