Charles P. Steinmetz (1865-1923) was born in Prussia, and was a hunchback from birth. The mathematical approach he took to electrical engineering problems soon came to be adopted across the industry, and during his lifetime, he made several brilliant discoveries regarding how electricity travels, and how it can best be conserved in alternating current systems. Although Steinmetz was foremost a scientist, he was an environmentalist as well and warned of the air pollution that would be caused by using coal fuel.
