Marsh, John L (1814-1887) John L. Marsh was born in Corydon, Vermont. He entered the army in 1862, eventually rising to the rank of colonel. In 1872 he came to Chicago, where he served the city as Justice of the Peace and as a prime mover in the advancement of the public schools.
